Bournemouth hold Newcastle to home draw

AFC Bournemouth extended their unbeaten run to four Premier League games with a goalless draw against Newcastle United at Vitality Stadium on Sunday.

The Cherries had won their last three matches against Wolves, Tottenham and Brighton, and Andoni Iraola’s side once again looked organised as they registered a third clean sheet of the campaign.

AC Milan loanee Álex Jiménez made his full Premier League debut, while goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović was tested just once, saving well from Jacob Murphy in the first half.

Bournemouth created a number of chances of their own. Tyler Adams saw a fierce drive blocked by Nick Pope after being set up by a clever backheel from David Brooks, while an early strike from Jiménez was stopped by Newcastle defender Lewis Hall.

Brooks thought he had opened the scoring when he found the net, but the flag was raised for offside. Alex Scott also went close, firing over the crossbar following Antoine Semenyo’s long throw.

Newcastle pressed in the second half, but James Hill produced a fine challenge to deny Harvey Barnes, while the visitors’ appeals for a penalty were waved away when Nick Woltemade went down under pressure from Bafodé Diakité.

As the game reached stoppage time, substitute Justin Kluivert nearly stole the win with a low free-kick, only for Pope to scoop the effort clear.

The result leaves Bournemouth unbeaten in four matches, with Iraola’s side showing resilience and defensive strength as they continue their strong start to the season.

Attendance was 11,212, with referee Robert Jones in charge.I
