Resident card plans revealed for BCP

Residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole could soon benefit from free swimming, parking perks and discounts in local shops as part of new Council proposals.

Plans have been put forward for a Resident Card, designed to give households more value and provide direct savings on everyday activities and leisure across the three towns.

The scheme will be discussed at the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 22 September before progressing to Cabinet on 1 October. If approved, the launch is expected in summer 2026.

The Resident Card would give residents access to one free swim a month at BCP-managed leisure centres, an hour of free parking at selected Council-owned car parks, and discounts at Council kiosks and local businesses.

Councillor Millie Earl, Leader of BCP Council, said the card was an important step in revitalising high streets and supporting communities. She said it would protect household incomes while helping local businesses attract new customers, adding that free access to swimming facilities would also support health and wellbeing.

The card will be available in both physical and digital formats, supported by a user-friendly website, to make sure it is accessible to everyone.

Businesses will be able to set their own promotions, meaning residents could enjoy a wide range of tailored offers across cafés, restaurants, and shops.

The Council said the scheme would focus on putting residents first while creating opportunities for businesses, encouraging people to spend more time in local high streets.

The initiative is designed to respond to cost of living pressures and promote active lifestyles, while strengthening links between communities and the places where they shop and socialise.

If given the go-ahead, the card will be available to all residents across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with a full rollout planned for summer 2026.
