Dorset Police launch mobile stations to connect with communities

Dorset Police has launched two new mobile police stations which will visit communities across the county on set days each month.

The vehicles will give residents the chance to report crime, anti-social behaviour, intelligence or suspicious incidents, receive crime prevention advice, or raise any policing concerns directly with their local neighbourhood team.

The eastern vehicle, based at Ferndown, will visit Ferndown, Verwood, Wimborne, Shaftesbury, Christchurch and Highcliffe.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan said the initiative would help bring policing to busy areas with high footfall, including rural communities, to ensure more people can easily access their neighbourhood policing team.

He added that the vehicles have inside seating and awnings to allow private conversations when needed.

The eastern vehicle is fully electric and has been funded through developer contributions via Dorset Council.

Councillor Richard Biggs, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Property and Assets, said the vehicle has already been put to use in communities in the east of the county and has been well received.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said the scheme delivered on his pledge to bring policing closer to people. He said it showed a commitment to listening and providing a regular, visible presence in accessible locations across the county.

Residents are encouraged to follow their local policing teams on social media or visit the Dorset Police website for the latest details on the mobile police stations and neighbourhood policing activity.
