Bournemouth Airport ranked among UK’s top six airports

Bournemouth Airport has been named one of the top six airports in the United Kingdom in a major Which? survey of almost six thousand passengers.

The airport received a customer score of 73 per cent, securing “Recommended Provider” status for its overall passenger experience. Travellers highlighted the ease of access, relaxed atmosphere and straightforward check-in and security as making for a smooth start to their journeys.

Passengers rated airports across categories including customer service, security queues, bag drop and seating, with Bournemouth scoring above many of the country’s busiest airports.

The vote comes just a few days after a strike, due to low pay conditions, was called off by Unite Union.

Steve Gill, Managing Director of Bournemouth Airport, said the result was a strong endorsement of the team’s efforts. He said: “We pride ourselves on offering a straightforward and welcoming experience and it is hugely rewarding to know passengers value the care we provide.”

The airport is currently undergoing a £50 million investment programme, boosted by Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays opening their twelfth UK base at Bournemouth earlier this year. Planning permission has also been secured for a major terminal expansion.

Bournemouth welcomed 1.1 million passengers in the year ending March this year, an all-time record for the airport. It now serves 48 destinations and employs around 450 people.

Its sister airports Exeter and Norwich, which are also part of the Regional and City Airports group, were placed in the top six, with Exeter taking the number one spot nationally.

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said the results showed that airport choice could make a big difference to the start of any trip.
