Bournemouth Water invites residents to Christchurch meeting on Knapp Mill

Bournemouth Water is inviting residents to a community information evening in Christchurch to learn more about the £85 million upgrade of Knapp Mill Water Treatment Works.

The event takes place on Wednesday 10 September 2025, from 5.30pm to 7pm at Twynham Primary School in Marsh Lane. It will give people the chance to meet the project team, ask questions, and hear about how the investment will benefit households across the region.

The Knapp Mill works are part of Bournemouth Water’s wider £200 million infrastructure programme to modernise and future-proof water supplies. Once complete, the site will use advanced treatment technology to deliver a more reliable and sustainable supply, reduce environmental impact, and increase resilience against climate change.

Progress has been steady since construction preparations finished in June. Pre-built ceramic membrane treatment units have been delivered to site, with the first now being installed. A new loop road has also been built within the site to safely manage heavy vehicle movements and reduce disruption on local roads.

The next stage will focus on installing large pipework to connect treatment buildings and on landscaping to integrate the site with its surroundings. The project remains on track to be completed in spring 2026, when the upgraded facility will begin supplying households across Bournemouth.

Senior Programme Manager Jamie Elliot said the meeting is a chance for people to find out more about both the progress on site and the steps being taken to limit disruption.
