Road closed and man arrested after police pursuit in Bournemouth

A section of the A338 Wessex Way in Bournemouth was closed yesterday afternoon as police safely brought a vehicle to a stop following a pursuit.

At around 3.32pm on Wednesday 20 August 2025, officers observed a black Fiat 500 in Spencer Road. The car had previously been reported as stolen from the Poole area. The vehicle failed to stop and was followed by police through parts of Bournemouth before being intercepted on the A338.

The road was temporarily closed while officers dealt with the incident. Following enquiries, a 26-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of driving offences. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Police Constable Daniel Blagden, of the Roads Policing Team, is appealing for witnesses and any relevant footage. He asked motorists who were travelling in the areas of Holdenhurst Road, Queens Park, Richmond Park, Wimborne Road and the A338 to check their dashcams. He also urged residents with home CCTV or doorbell cameras to review their recordings in case they captured anything useful.

Police thanked motorists for their patience during the temporary road closure.
