Bournemouth woman charged with murder and burial prevention

A woman has been charged with murder after the death of a man in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police received a report at 12.57pm on Saturday 9 August this year from the ambulance service, raising concern for the welfare of a man at a property in Edgehill Road in the Winton area.

Officers attended and found an eighty-eight-year-old local man dead at the address.

An investigation was launched by detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team. Sixty-year-old Tamara MacGarry, from Bournemouth, who is known to the deceased man, was arrested at the scene.

She has since been charged with murder and preventing a lawful burial. She is due to appear at Poole Magistrates Court today.

The offence of preventing a lawful burial can relate to acts intended to conceal a death or obstruct legal burial procedures.

Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has died, and we are continuing to update them with the progress of the investigation.

“This incident has been the subject of an extensive investigation and we have now consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service, who have authorised the charges of both murder and preventing a lawful burial.

“This means the case will now be the subject of active court proceedings and it is vital that the justice system is allowed to follow its course. Therefore, it is also important to stress that there should be no further commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these court proceedings.”

Police say there will continue to be an increased presence in the area while the investigation continues.
