Dorset Police partners with Wiltshire to support domestic abuse victims

Dorset Police is working with Wiltshire Police to provide improved support for victims of domestic abuse where the alleged perpetrator is working within policing.

A new memorandum of understanding between the two forces means that in Dorset, for cases involving police-perpetrated domestic abuse, victims will have the option to request a case officer from Wiltshire Police. This applies whether or not the victim is also employed in policing.

The aim is to give victims confidence that their case will be handled consistently, appropriately, and independently from the alleged perpetrator’s own force.

Superintendent Neil Wright, Dorset Police’s lead for Violence Against Women and Girls and domestic abuse, said the new protocol should encourage more victims to come forward. He stressed that domestic abuse remains a top priority for the force and that all victims will be fully supported, with perpetrators held to account.

The initiative recognises the added complexity when the accused works in policing, and is part of wider efforts to remove barriers to reporting. Dorset Police is urging anyone affected to seek help, stressing that concerns will be listened to regardless of the circumstances.

People in immediate danger should call 999. For non-emergencies, Dorset Police can be contacted online, by calling 101, or by visiting their website for more information on support services.
