Firefighters remain on scene at Holt Heath this morning following a fire which destroyed around 70 hectares of land over the weekend.
Crews are continuing to work in difficult conditions to fully extinguish the blaze. The fire has been surrounded, but multiple hotspots and flare ups are still being tackled.
Appliances have been sent from across the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service area, along with support from neighbouring fire services in Devon and Somerset, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Royal Berkshire.
This morning, additional appliances and specialist teams from other parts of the country are expected to arrive, coordinated through the National Resilience Assurance Team. This national support is aimed at providing relief and ensuring the fire can be brought under control as soon as possible.
The fire service has expressed its thanks to businesses and residents who have provided food, water and other supplies for crews. Morrisons in Verwood and Tesco Express in West Moors donated food and water, while the Dorset Food Company sent a hot food van to the scene.
The Salvation Army has been supplying drinks and snacks, and local residents have also brought forward donations.
Fire service representatives have asked people not to deliver items directly to fire stations, as crews may not be present to receive them. They say the offers and messages of support are greatly appreciated.
Work will continue throughout the day to deal with remaining hot spots and to prevent the fire from reigniting. The cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed.
