Plans revealed for 1,200-home village near Wimborne in Canford Magna

A new village is being planned for Canford Magna, near Wimborne, with proposals to build up to 1,200 homes on the site of a former quarry and golf course off Magna Road.

The scheme, led by Dudsbury Homes (Southern) Ltd, includes plans for a new local centre, primary school, parklands and opportunities for a country park to serve the wider area.

Spanning 230 hectares, the site sits close to key A roads, with developers aiming to make the most of the location’s connections and varied landscape to create a well-designed and accessible community.

The development, known as Canford Village, would also include measures for Sustainable Drainage Systems and Biodiversity Net Gain. A number of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspaces (SANGs) are also proposed, connected by walking links and centred around a new village square.

Scott Worsfold Associates are overseeing the design and have created a masterplan that blends traditional and contemporary architecture with landscape design.

The project is currently in the planning stage.

Nearby major housing developments in Wimborne include land south of Leigh Road, also proposing over 800 homes and a new school.

Dorset Council’s Local Plan identifies the Wimborne area as a growth zone for new housing to meet future needs, and previous proposals on the Canford Magna site have been discussed since the early 2010s, but large-scale plans had not progressed until now.
