Police step up patrols at Bournemouth station in safety crackdown

Police carried out extra patrols at Bournemouth railway station on Friday as part of a joint operation to tackle anti-social behaviour during the busy summer period.

Officers from Dorset Police and British Transport Police engaged with visitors arriving by train, supported by staff from South Western Railway. A dispersal order was in place, allowing officers to remove anyone likely to cause trouble.

The activity was part of the Good Safe Summer campaign and follows a reduction in anti-social behaviour reports since April compared to last year. More than one hundred and thirty dispersal notices have been issued by Dorset Police in recent weeks.

Inspector Matt Buller, from Bournemouth Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the focus was on early intervention and visible patrols at key hotspots to prevent minor issues from escalating. He added that officers are using technology, including drones and the BCP Council CCTV network, to help identify anyone intent on causing disorder.

British Transport Police said the aim is to ensure all visitors can enjoy Bournemouth safely, and officers remain active on the rail network to respond to incidents.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick welcomed the operation, saying it sends a clear message to anyone considering causing disruption that it will not be tolerated.
