Almost £1m allocated to Poole and Bournemouth community projects

Community groups in Bournemouth and Poole are set to benefit from more than £950,000 in funding following the latest round of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) neighbourhood allocations.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has awarded the money to 60 local projects. These range from small improvements to large-scale upgrades, with individual grants of up to £75,000.

Merley Community Centre secured over £130,000 across six bids to fund facility improvements including new doors, toilets, table tennis equipment, and a resurfaced rear car park. In Poole Park, the cricket pavilion roof will be repaired and the artificial wicket replaced.

Street tree planting projects will receive more than £60,000 in Winton and Poole. A further £75,000 will go towards enhancing Ashley Cross Green, including new trees, flower beds and fountain maintenance.

Play areas in Canford Cliffs, Oakdale, Moordown, Springbourne Gardens and Treasure Island will also be upgraded. Additional funding is supporting benches at Coy Pond Road, safety signage at Whitecliff Park, accessibility improvements at Hamworthy Park and a new defibrillator at St Thomas Church.

The funding comes from planning charges paid by developers. The neighbourhood portion is reinvested in local areas to help address the impact of new developments.
