BCP residents invited to help shape future play areas

A public consultation has launched to help shape how major upgrades to local play areas across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole will be carried out.

More than 120 sites are due to benefit over the next two years through repairs, refurbishments or full replacements, as part of BCP Council’s Plan for Play strategy.

The consultation, which runs until 24 August, focuses on sites where brand new play areas are being considered or where major changes are planned. Local residents are being asked to give their views on what they would like to see in these improved or repurposed spaces.

Councillor Millie Earl, Leader of BCP Council, said the council is keen to work directly with communities to help co-create the spaces, particularly by listening to what children and families want. She added that involving residents would help build a sense of ownership and connection.

Once community feedback is received, designs will be developed in partnership with park users, stakeholders and suppliers, with construction work expected to begin in early 2026.

The Plan for Play strategy was approved by councillors last year, with most of the funding coming from developer contributions through the Community Infrastructure Levy. It represents the largest investment in play ever made by BCP Council.

The consultation is open online at bcpcouncil.gov.uk, where details of upcoming in-person events can also be found.
