A new summer school aiming to inspire young people to engage in politics and public life will take place in Bournemouth this August.
The two-day non-residential programme, launched by Bournemouth West MP Jessica Toale and developed with Bournemouth University lecturers, will welcome 75 students aged 16 to 19 from the local area.
Held on 28 and 29 August, the course will introduce participants to how political decisions are made at both local and national levels.
The programme includes workshops with guest speakers, training in communication skills, and mentoring from experts in politics, journalism and media.
Jessica Toale said the initiative is designed to “equip students with the confidence and tools to speak up, lead, and make change happen”.
Students will also have the opportunity to work inside the university’s media and communications facilities, with input from academics and those working in public life.
The summer school is open to anyone aged up to 19 who lives in Bournemouth or attends a school or college in the area. Applications are open now, with a closing date of Thursday 1 August.
The organisers are encouraging applications from motivated students of all backgrounds, with or without prior experience in politics.
