A motorist from Wimborne Minster has been jailed following a serious crash in Ferndown last year that left another driver badly injured.
Callum Giddins, aged 21, failed to stop for police near Canford Bottom roundabout on the evening of Monday 5 August last year. He was seen speeding away in a black Audi A1 before colliding with a blue Vauxhall Zafira on Wimborne Road East near The Pure Drop pub at around 9.20pm.
The driver of the Zafira, a 58-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Giddins and his 18-year-old front seat passenger were also injured, with Giddins sustaining serious injuries.
Police confirmed Giddins had no valid driving licence or insurance and was in possession of cannabis. He also tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a breakdown product of cocaine.
At Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 11 July this year, Giddins pleaded guilty to six offences, including causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving. He was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison and banned from driving for five years and five months.
Police say CCTV footage showing the moments before the crash helped secure the conviction.
