Operation launched in Poole and North Bournemouth to seize illegal e-bikes
Dorset Police has launched a new operation to tackle the rise in illegal use of modified electric bikes, scramblers and scooters linked to organised crime and anti-social behaviour in parts of Poole and North Bournemouth.
Since the start of this year, officers have seized 52 electric scooters and 33 electric bikes used illegally across the county.
The operation aims to disrupt criminal activity, increase patrols in known hotspot areas and reassure residents.
Vehicles seized during the operation will be crushed and recycled. SmartTag forensic spray is also being used to identify offenders, with Bournemouth University helping to analyse police data to support future enforcement.
Inspector Nick Lee from Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team said the vehicles are being used to commit serious offences, including violent crime and drug dealing. He said the operation is a direct response to community concerns and a rise in calls about this issue.
Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick welcomed the approach, stating illegal riders should expect their vehicles to be seized and destroyed.
Anyone with concerns about illegal vehicles is urged to report them to Dorset Police via 101 or the Force website.
