Christchurch Library photography exhibition open to public this week

A new photography exhibition curated by six local photographers is currently on display at Christchurch Library and will be open to the public until Saturday 12 July.

The exhibition, led by recently retired Christchurch resident David Perkins, features 60 photographs – ten from each contributor – highlighting a range of themes and techniques. The project was inspired by a photography course taken at Arts University Bournemouth last autumn.

The group met during the ‘Digital Photography – Essential Techniques’ course, a ten-week programme that introduced them to digital camera functions and creative composition. The course concluded with each student producing a final project of ten images.

Contributors include Colin Grieve with ‘Street Encounters’, David Perkins with ‘Transport(ed)’, Ben Promitzer with ‘Observations’, Gary Rawlins with ‘Black & White’, Liza Wellsted with ‘Boyhood’, and Phil Woodward with ‘Holidays’.

After encouragement from their course leader, the group decided to take their work further by organising a public exhibition. David Perkins coordinated the display with support from others including photographer Gary Rawlins and Arts University Bournemouth staff.

The exhibition is free to view and located in Christchurch Library. The group is now exploring opportunities to take the exhibition to other venues across the area.
