Police appeal after woman raped near Bournemouth beach toilets

A police investigation is under way following a reported rape near Undercliff Drive in Bournemouth during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Dorset Police received a report at 1.57am on Sunday 6 July that a woman in her late teens had been raped in a public toilet close to the seafront. The incident is believed to have taken place around 1.15am.

A 31-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.

Detectives are asking for help from anyone who may have been in the area at the time and have not yet spoken to officers. They are particularly keen to trace a man and woman walking a brown, mid-sized dog along the promenade, who were seen heading up the zig-zag path toward East Cliff.

They also wish to speak with a man dressed in dark clothing and carrying a backpack, seen walking towards Bournemouth Pier around the same time. In addition, a group of people who spoke to the victim at the bottom of the Toft Zig Zag shortly after the incident are also being sought.

Specialist officers are continuing to support the victim, and an increased police presence remains in the area.

Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101 or online, quoting occurrence number 55250097668.
