New outdoor nature space near Bournemouth for under fives launched

A new outdoor learning space for young children has opened near Bournemouth Airport.

The ‘Nature Nook’ is based at The Treehouse in Hurn and has been created by local charity Diverse Abilities. The group is launching a regular nature session for children under five, offering sensory play, nature crafts, planting and stories.

Called Little Seedlings, the session runs every Thursday in Dorset term time from 10am to 11.30am and is open to all families, not just those with additional needs.

Children can explore a grassy orchard, dig in a woodchip play area, build dens or enjoy a purpose-built mud kitchen. A fire pit, wishing tree and outdoor activity space are also part of the setting.

The sessions are designed and led by a team with experience supporting children with special educational needs, but the group is open to all.

Lily Felstead from Diverse Abilities said they are excited to offer the new sessions to the wider community and described Nature Nook as a welcoming space to support outdoor play and learning.

Parents and carers must stay with their children during the session. More details can be found at diverseabilities.org.uk/naturenook.
