New pay structure for BCP Council staff moves ahead

A new pay structure for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council employees is set to move forward following trade union support.

Staff represented by GMB and UNISON voted in favour of proposals to introduce fairer and more consistent pay. Ballot results showed 83 per cent of UNISON members and 77 per cent of GMB members backed the changes.

The Council has been working towards a single pay and conditions structure since it was formed in 2019. At present, some staff are still on different pay rates for doing the same work.

Under the latest proposal, over 90 per cent of Council staff would either gain or maintain their current pay. Those whose pay would decrease are expected to receive salary protection for 18 months.

The plans are due to go before councillors for approval in July. If agreed, the new pay system will be introduced on 1 December 2025.

Councillors will consider the funding needed to deliver the changes, including an extra £1.7 million to support the final offer accepted by unions. A final decision will be made at a full Council meeting on 22 July.
