Over 2,000 people cycle through Bournemouth in drum and bass ride

More than 2,000 people joined a mass cycling event through Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

The unofficial ride, known as Drum and Bass on the Bike, was led by DJ Dom Whiting and began at the Vitality Stadium. The route passed through Littledown, Pokesdown and Southbourne, ending at Boscombe beach.

Dorset Police made a late change to the planned route to avoid disruption in Boscombe and Bournemouth town centre.

The event is part of a series of rides organised by Whiting, who combines live DJing with cycling. He has taken the event to locations across the UK and Europe since starting during lockdown.

Although not formally organised with the council, the ride attracted hundreds of spectators and was largely peaceful.

Dom Whiting has built a strong following for the event, which blends dance music and cycling into a public parade through urban areas. He began the Drum and Bass on the Bike rides in 2021 during Covid restrictions, aiming to lift public spirits.

The events feature a mobile DJ setup mounted on a bicycle, with large speakers and a live performance while cycling.

Similar rides have taken place in London, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Berlin, Amsterdam and other cities.
