A Bournemouth hotel has apologised to comedian Jason Manford after a problem with his room booking on Saturday night.
Manford had arrived ahead of his performance at the Bournemouth Pavilion and expected two rooms to be available for him and a colleague. However, on arrival at the Village Hotel in Bournemouth, he says staff told him the hotel was fully booked and the rooms were not available.
Posting on social media, the comedian said the hotel eventually provided a room, but it had to be shared.
He later shared a follow-up video claiming the hotel’s management had asked him to take the original post down. He refused, saying it was important to raise awareness about overbooking in hotels, drawing a comparison to how airlines sometimes overbook flights.
The Village Hotel group has since apologised for the incident.
Manford’s show at the Pavilion Theatre went ahead as planned on Sunday evening.
There has been increasing public discussion about transparency in booking practices following similar incidents involving high-profile figures.
What’s your minimum expectation when you book a room at @Villagehotelsup? 😂😂 staff were lovely but policy stinks! pic.twitter.com/qitRAgWQfO
