Public asked for views on Bournemouth and Poole seafront parking

BCP Council is inviting public feedback on proposals to extend paid-for parking in two seafront areas covering parts of Bournemouth and Poole.

The plans focus on Canford Cliffs, Branksome Chine and Westcliff, as well as Boscombe and Southbourne. People can give their views between 24 June and 1 August.

The move follows ongoing concerns about illegal and inconsiderate parking during peak seasons, including vehicles left on pavements, double yellow lines and across driveways.

The council says current parking enforcement is limited due to a lack of restrictions and stretched budgets. Introducing paid-for parking could help fund more enforcement, including tow-away capacity for serious offences and greater coverage of problem areas.

Local residents living on the affected streets could be eligible to apply for an annual residents’ permit if the proposals go ahead. Those outside the zones would not qualify for a permit.

Councillor Richard Herrett said the council welcomes over ten million seafront visitors each year and needs to ensure the area remains safe and accessible. He added that the new charges would only be introduced after local people have had their say.

Shopping areas such as Canford Cliffs Village and Southbourne Grove are not included in the draft plans. A lower tariff would apply in the low season, with higher rates in the summer months.

People can take part online via haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/seafront-parking-2025 or request paper copies at BCP libraries.
