Poole gains new ultra-rapid electric 12 vehicle hub at retail park

A new ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub has opened at Poole Retail Park, as part of a national rollout by Source, a new EV charging network backed by SSE and TotalEnergies.

The Poole site includes 12 bays, with five 150kW chargers allowing many vehicles to fully charge in around 15 minutes. One 22kW unit is also available, and two bays are designed for easy accessibility.

Drivers can locate and use the new chargers through the SourceConnect app, which offers real-time availability, “Pay As You Go” charging via QR code, and live session tracking.

Source plans to introduce booking options and features for fleet operators as the network develops.

The launch in Poole is one of 300 hubs planned by Source by 2030, aiming to meet growing demand from EV drivers and support the UK’s Zero Emission Vehicle mandate. The Poole Retail Park, just off the A35, is home to major shops including Boots and John Lewis.

All Source hubs use renewable energy and are managed by the company’s Sentinel system, which monitors real-world usage data to help shape future installations.

The Department for Transport’s Lillian Greenwood said the initiative has strong potential to increase consumer confidence in EV charging as the UK works towards more sustainable travel.
