Fire on Longfleet Road closes route and causes major delays

A fire broke out in the roof of a guest house on Longfleet Road in Poole on Thursday afternoon, leading to road closures and disruption in the area.

Fire crews were called to Fleetwater Guest House, opposite Green Park, just after 3.30pm. The roof space was already well alight when they arrived.

Teams from Poole, Hamworthy, Westbourne, Springbourne and Redhill Park were sent to the scene, along with Westbourne’s aerial ladder platform.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames using two hose reel jets and two main lines.

The fire led to the closure of Longfleet Road in both directions, which caused long delays on surrounding roads throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

Dorset Police confirmed they received a call from the fire service at 3.34pm. Officers attended to help manage the scene and put road closures in place.

One lane of the road reopened to traffic at around 8pm.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and no injuries have been reported.
