A man has been jailed for over three and a half years after robbing an elderly man at a cash machine in Bournemouth.
Tommy Burton, aged 43 and from Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 13 June to three years and eight months in prison.
The robbery took place at around 8.15pm on Sunday 23 March outside the Co-op on Christchurch Road. The victim, who is elderly, was withdrawing £100 when he was pushed to the ground by an unknown man who then stole the cash and ran off.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The newly-formed Neighbourhood Crime Team, which focuses on burglary and prolific offenders, led the investigation. Officers identified Burton using CCTV and arrested him at a nearby address later that same evening.
He was charged on Friday 28 March with robbery and later pleaded guilty. In addition to his prison sentence, he must pay a £228 victim surcharge.
The case marks one of the first major outcomes for the Neighbourhood Crime Team, which Dorset Police recently launched to increase focus on neighbourhood offences.
A police spokesperson said the team worked hard to bring Burton to justice and hoped the result showed their commitment to pursuing offenders and supporting victims.
