BCP Council invites residents to shape future waste strategy

BCP Council is asking people across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to help shape a new long-term plan to manage household waste.

The ten-year Waste Strategy aims to improve recycling, reduce waste and align local services with national environmental goals. It comes as the Government targets a national recycling rate of 65 percent by 2035. BCP’s current rate is just under 50 percent.

Among the priorities are encouraging residents to reuse and repair more, cutting carbon emissions and making waste services more efficient.

Cllr Andy Hadley, who leads on climate and environment, said the council is keen to listen to ideas and concerns. “We want to understand what people and businesses expect from the strategy. This is also a chance to show how waste reduction and recycling can save money and help the environment,” he said.

The strategy will be shaped in partnership with residents, local businesses and organisations.

An online consultation is open until Saturday 29 June and paper copies can be requested from local libraries.
