Morebus boss Andrew Wickham MBE dies after long illness

The managing director of Morebus and long-standing leader of Go South Coast, Andrew Wickham MBE, has died following a long illness.

Andrew spent nearly four decades in the transport industry and led the region’s largest bus operator since 2011. Based in Poole, Morebus is part of Go South Coast, which also runs Bluestar, Salisbury Reds, Southern Vectis and several other operators across southern England.

He remained in post until the end and was recently recognised with an MBE for services to the bus industry. The honour was presented by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.

Andrew graduated from Aston University in 1987 and started his career with Brighton Borough Transport. He went on to hold senior roles with London General and Plymouth Citybus before joining Go South Coast, where he became managing director in 2011.

Under his leadership, passenger numbers grew significantly and the group received multiple industry awards. He was known for praising his teams over personal accolades.

Ben Murray, current finance director, has been appointed interim managing director, supported by parent company Go-Ahead Group.

A spokesperson said Andrew left an “outstanding legacy”, with a strong team in place to continue the work he led for so many years.

Andrew was also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
