A community group that looks after flowerbeds and green spaces in Broadstone has received £200 from Morebus to support its work.
Broadstone in Bloom is a voluntary team of around eight people who meet weekly to maintain flowerbeds in The Broadway and organise monthly litter picks.
The group began its work in 1996 after noticing the flowerbeds had been neglected, and has since relied on donations and plant sales to fund its efforts.
The recent donation from Morebus will help the group buy plants, tools and other equipment needed to continue its work over the coming months.
Lisa Harvey from Broadstone in Bloom said: “We are a great enthusiastic group, who just want to make a difference to the area. The flowerbeds were neglected back in 1996, but Broadstone in Bloom has brought them back to life. We also hold a community litter pick every month to keep the area tidy, and encourage shopkeepers to purchase a hanging basket each year. We have no funding or help, and rely on the three plant sales we hold each year or kind public donations. One recent contribution is from Morebus – who have given us £200 towards new plants and equipment. This will go a long way in ensuring the flowerbeds at The Broadway are maintained over the coming months.”
Nikki Honer from Morebus said the company was pleased to support the group’s efforts through its community fund.
The donation is part of a wider initiative from Morebus to help local groups working to improve shared spaces.
