Creativity celebrated as SAMEE charity helps artistic entrepreneurs with special needs

Eight interns from Bournemouth’s SAMEE charity will be exhibiting art and photography at a special exhibition in Bournemouth.

The exhibition, at Patch in Bobby’s, is from Tuesday 6th to Friday 16th May.

It will showcase the work exclusively created by participants on the SAMEE Supported Self-Employment Internship programme.

The programme aims to give participants who have a learning difficulty, long-term health condition or who are neurodivergent, the opportunity to gain essential self-employment skills and relevant work experience ahead of them embarking on their journey into starting their own businesses.

It’s achieved while they concurrently complete the ‘Steps Into Self Employment’ qualification – the UK’s first co-created level 1 certificate in self-employment skills for disadvantaged young people.

The exhibition was put together by the SAMEE charity with the help of Nathan White, brand founder of south-coast ethical clothing streetwear Jeenewoosh Clothing & Art.

Nathan, a reformed drug addict who used art therapy to help him conquer his addiction, is an alumnus of the charity.

Rob Amey, SAMEE Young Person Lead, said: “The SAMEE team are excited and incredibly proud of this monumental step for the interns who have been fully involved with planning the exhibition from the outset by organising publicity and promotion material as well as creating the artworks and photography pieces for the event.

“Everyone at SAMEE charity would like to thank The Patch Project for accommodating the exhibition, their assistance with the interns and for allowing us to showcase the skills and talents of our interns in their brilliant community space.”
