Dorset Council has retained its position as the top-performing unitary and disposal authority in England for recycling, based on the national 2023/24 data set published by DEFRA.
The Council reported a recycling rate of 60.5 percent for kerbside waste, significantly above the national average of 44 percent.
This places Dorset Council first among all unitary and disposal authorities and fifth overall among all local authorities in England.
In addition, Dorset ranked third nationally for the lowest amount of residual waste collected per household, with just 363 kilograms per household.
These figures reflect Dorset Council’s continued efforts to promote effective recycling and waste reduction across the county.
Councillor Jon Andrews, Cabinet Member for Place Services, said: “I want to thank Dorset’s keen recyclers and our Waste Services team for this result.
“This achievement reflects the dedication of Dorset residents and the commitment of our officers.”
He added that continuing to improve recycling habits and reducing overall waste can help Dorset maintain its strong performance in future years.
The Council encourages all residents to recycle correctly and remain conscious of their household waste in order to support sustainability goals across the region.
