Bournemouth Town Centre BID removes graffiti and collects 58 bags of rubbish in Clean-Up Week

Bournemouth Town Centre BID has removed 41 instances of graffiti and collected 58 bags of rubbish as part of a week-long clean-up effort, including the annual Big Bournemouth Clean Up on March 26.

A specialist cleaning team began work on March 24, removing graffiti from multiple locations across the town centre.

The initiative was followed by a community litter-picking event, which saw 29 volunteers from local businesses, alongside Town Rangers and BID staff, take to the streets with litter-pickers and bags.

Participants represented businesses including Preston Redman, Experience UX, BU International College, Bright Blue Day, Grosvenor Casino, HSBC, BCP Council, and the soon-to-open Barbara’s Bier Haus.

Turtle Bay also provided breakfast for volunteers.

Graffiti removal is a regular part of the BID’s efforts, with a dedicated team addressing the issue on a monthly basis. Last year, 371 graffiti markings were cleaned—more than one per day on average. Additionally, the BID funds a rapid-response cleaning service, which collected 3,394 bags of rubbish last year, supplementing BCP Council’s street cleaning services.

The BID also manages other initiatives to improve the town centre’s appearance, including the provision and maintenance of hanging baskets, pedestals, and planters, which will return this summer.

BID Chair Martin Davies highlighted the importance of addressing graffiti and litter promptly, stating that proactive action helps maintain a clean environment and prevents further issues.

These efforts form part of the BID’s year-round commitment to keeping Bournemouth town centre welcoming for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Paul Kinvig, Chief Operating Officer at Bournemouth Town Centre BID said: “Once again, we’re incredibly grateful to our town centre businesses for their efforts, which have made a huge impact.”
