MP Tom Hayes announces free breakfast club for students at Malmesbury Park Primary School

A new free breakfast club is launching at Malmesbury Park Primary School thanks to Bournemouth East Labour MP Tom Hayes.

The club is part of a new national initiative aimed at providing children from disadvantaged communities with free 30-minute breakfast sessions starting in the summer term.

Tom was one of a select handful of MPs who scrutinised the legislation creating the free breakfast clubs.

The MP said: “As a child who relied on free school meals, I know just how much access to a proper meal can change a young person’s life and put money into the pockets of parents.

“No child should have to start their school day hungry, and this scheme will ensure every child has the chance to thrive.”

For working parents, these breakfast clubs will provide free childcare helping them balance work and family responsibilities. Parents could save up to £450 a year by taking part.

The Free Breakfast Club Scheme is the first phase of a national rollout, and the government plans to expand the program to all primary schools in England. Schools selected for the initial phase will contact families directly with information on how to sign up.
