Dorset Police has reinforced its partnership with AFC Bournemouth to combat violence against women and girls (VAWG), expanding efforts to enhance safety and awareness at the Vitality Stadium.
As part of this initiative, the Force recently delivered specialist training to concourse and hospitality staff, equipping them with the knowledge to recognize offences, support victims, and encourage reporting.
The training, which took place ahead of the Cherries’ match against Liverpool on 1 February 2025, builds on previous collaboration, including a powerful awareness video released during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in November 2024.
The partnership also includes the deployment of two female operational football officers at AFC Bournemouth matches, further strengthening safety measures and community engagement.
Detective Superintendent Neil Wright, Dorset Police’s lead for VAWG, emphasized the importance of this initiative during Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week: “Tackling violence against women and girls remains a key priority. By delivering this training, we’re strengthening our commitment to ensuring women and girls can enjoy matchdays safely.”
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick praised the collaboration: “This joint effort will make a tangible difference in matchday safety while raising awareness of a critical societal issue. We must push for real change and address the root causes of violence against women and girls.”
Dorset Police continues to encourage victims of VAWG-related offences to come forward and seek support, reinforcing its mission to create a safer community for all.
