BU students played a key role in the production of the latest ‘Time Team’ episode, recorded at BU’s Poole Gateway Building.
The episode featured a discussion about the show’s future and included video segments, a news update, and a special reveal about returning to the Sutton Hoo dig site in 2025.
‘Time Team’ originally aired on Channel 4 until 2014 and returned in 2022 on YouTube. The current format sees the crew exploring archaeological sites across the UK. In 2023, they filmed an excavation led by BU’s Maritime Archaeological Department.
For this episode, BU’s second-year Television Production students took on key roles, operating cameras and directing the live studio production. Student director Sam Schreiber expressed excitement about working on the project, highlighting the sense of community that the show fosters.
Dr. Derek Pitman, BU’s Head of Archaeology & Anthropology and ‘Time Team’ presenter, praised the collaboration between BU’s faculties and the ‘Time Team’ crew. He commended the students’ professionalism in a studio setting. Alan Fox, Lecturer in Media Production, noted the successful exchange of skills between students and industry professionals.
Karl Rawstrone, Head of Media Production, celebrated the partnership, which showcased BU’s top-tier students and facilities in a real-world industry setting.
