A woman has died after being involved in a collision with a vehicle while walking along the A35 Upton bypass last night.
The 24-year-old, who comes from the Poole, was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Dorset Police were contacted at 8.10pm last night after concerns over the woman who was walking eastbound from Upton towards the Shell garage.
The road was closed for emergency services to respond to the incident and remained shut during the night while specialist officers examined the scene.
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Police Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died in this collision and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.
“We know there were a large number of witnesses to this incident and I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.
“Also, I am keen to speak to any motorists who saw or captured dashcam footage of the woman walking along the dual carriageway, the manner of driving of other motorists or the moments leading up to the collision to contact us.
“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place.”
