Motorcyclist in his 20s dies following collision with a car on the A31 near Wimborne

A man in his 20s has died following a collision involving a grey Suzuki motorcycle and a white Nissan Qashqai on the A31.

The incident happened this morning between the Merley Roundabout and Canford Bottom just before 9am.

Emergency services attended and the rider of the motorcycle – a man aged in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded and to allow for an examination of the collision scene to take place.

Sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the traffic unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the young man who very sadly died as a result of this collision.

“We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and I would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.

“I would also urge any motorists with dashcam who were travelling in the area to please review their footage for anything of relevance.

“Finally, I appreciate this collision has resulted in the closure of a main road for a period of time and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding. Road closures are necessary to allow first responders to deal with the incident and for a detailed examination of the scene to be conducted.”
