Students from Nerve Radio at Bournemouth University have bagged three awards at the 2024 Student Radio Awards.
Presenters Hannah Clubley and Kitty Nixon were awarded Gold for Best Interview after they interviewed artist Badger at the Student Union’s annual festival, SUBU Summer Ball, in June this year.
Hannah, who recently graduated from Bournemouth University (BU) with a degree in Television Production, is now studying for her Master’s in Journalism at BU.
She said: “Nerve Radio has been such an important part of my university experience. It’s how I found my love for interviewing, and I haven’t stopped since!
The station was awarded Silver for Best Event Programming for an event they organised at the Students’ Union’s on-campus venue, Dylan’s Kitchen & Bar, in February.
The team hosted a free gig for BU students with live performances from local bands Galaxy Thief and LJ & Franks, whilst broadcasting the event live on FM locally.
The station was also awarded Silver for Best Multiplatform Initiative for their Round the Clock Radio Challenge, held in June. Nerve Radio hosted a 24-hour broadcast from their studio based in the Students’ Union building on Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus, where they were joined by presenters from other student radio stations across the south to raise money for Mind, The Teenage Cancer Trust, The Journey of a Lifetime Trust and Epilepsy Action.
Jeffery Ononiwu, Vice-President of Student Opportunities at the Students’ Union, said: “A huge congratulations to all students involved with Nerve Radio. This has been another incredible achievement for our student-led radio station, and we’re so pleased to see them adding more awards to their trophy cabinet!
The awards, hosted at the O2 Indigo in London, is an annual celebration to recognise the achievements in the student radio and audio community.

David Harber, who set up Nerve Radio in 1995 with fellow student James Bromley, can now be heard each evening on Bournemouth One.
