Van explodes after onboard fireworks catch fire between Wimborne and Blandford

A van carrying fireworks exploded and burnt out on the B3082 between Wimborne and Blandford on Friday night.

The road adjacent to the Ashley Wood Golf Club remains closed today following the incident, which was first reported just before 10pm.

Dorset Police said: “A Ford Transit carrying fireworks caught light as the vehicle was travelling towards Blandford.

“Retained Firefighters from Wimborne and Blandford attended the fire and remained on scene all night, ensuring there was no further risks to the wider public.

“During the fire, there was an explosion which is why the roof and rear doors are bubbled and the side panels blown out. Part of the roof landed in a nearby field. Fortunately no one was injured in the incident.

“The road closures at the Wimborne end is at the True Lovers Knot pub in Tarrent Keyneston and at the Blandford end at the entrance road to Ashley Wood Golf Club.

“For smaller vehicles taking the side roads is appropriate, but large vehicle should avoid this.”
