A record number of students from across Dorset and the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area took part in this year’s Dorset Coding Day.
The initiative, led by Dorset Council in partnership with Barclays Digital Eagles and supported by BCP Council, was declared a resounding success.
It received overwhelmingly positive feedback from schools countywide.
Rebecca Martin, Head Teacher at St. Mark’s School Swanage, said: “Our students thoroughly enjoyed the coding activities provided by Barclays and Dorset Council.
“It was inspiring to see their excitement and engagement with the tasks.”
This year’s event saw 68 schools, 73 teachers and more than 7,000 students involved with the support of 42 local volunteers.
The coding activities, designed by Barclays Digital Eagles, provided a hands-on introduction to the world of coding with the day aimed at promoting digital skills among young people.
Cllr Richard Biggs, Dorset Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Property & Assets and Economic Growth, said: “I am pleased to see Dorset Coding Day go so well.
“It’s fantastic to encourage our young people into STEM careers by showing them what’s possible.
“This event is a great example of how we can inspire the next generation.”
