Townsend Youth Club receives £18,425 grant from ASDA for improvement work

The Townsend Youth Partnership in Bournemouth is to receive a grant for £18,425 from ASDA to renovate its facilities.

The money comes from the Asda Foundation which awarded £1.2 million to 65 community projects across the country to transform community spaces and places where local people can come together.

The 65 grants that have been awarded range between £10,000 and £25,000.

Townsend Youth Club offers twice-weekly open-access sessions for young people aged 11-16 years on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8.30pm.

The project aims to engage young people in meaningful activities in their own neighbourhood. Youth workers provide support on topics such as healthy relationships, emotional resilience and CV writing.

Mark Inkpen at Townsend Youth Partnership said: “We want to do more for our local community, especially for the children, young people and their families in Townsend, but our facilities have been in growing need of upgrading.

“The Asda Foundation funding is really going to help us future-proof and help us to provide facilities that everyone using the Centre can be proud of. Thank you so much Asda Foundation for this support.”

Karl Doyle, Chair of the Asda Foundation, says: “Our Community Tracker tells us that many community groups are struggling to find the funding to maintain, develop and repair these spaces and that’s where we have come into help. Through our Investing in Spaces and Places grants, and the wider Asda Foundation programme, we want to continue playing our part in uniting communities and reducing loneliness by improving community spaces and bringing people together.”
