A collision involving three cars blocked the A338 on Monday evening for around five hours with one person being taken to hospital.
Another person, a 26-year-old man from Bournemouth, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
Police, fire and ambulance services attended around 8.30pm and the road reopened just after 1am.
Dorset Police said: “We were called at 8.31pm on Monday 30 September 2024 to a report of a three vehicle collision on the A338 near the Ashley Heath roundabout in Bournemouth.
“One person was taken to hospital with injuries that are described as possibly serious.
“A 26-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
“Vehicles recovered and road reopened at around 1.10am on Tuesday 1 October.”
The incident caused congestion for traffic leaving the Southhampton vs AFC Bournemouth Match which ended around 10pm, with a home win for the Cherries.
