Classic Ford Anglia in pristine condition and under 5,000 mileage to go up for auction

A classic Ford Anglia first registered in 1949 and in pristine condition goes up for auction in Poole next month.

South Western Vehicle Auctions is selling the Anglia E4 94A,  together with its original purchase invoice and log book.

It’s acting on behalf of the vendor’s late husband who became the vehicle’s second owner from new in 1976.

Owen Shepherd, classics specialist at SWVA, is anticipating interest in the lovingly restored and meticulously presented car.

He said: “It is highly unusual to find a vehicle together with such good quality documentation.

“First registered in Southampton by Percy Hendy Ltd, the original owner was a lady driver, Mrs L Cull who purchased the car for the sum of £319, 16 shillings, and 8d.”

In addition to the log book and sales receipt, the car comes with the manufacturer’s warranty booklet and the Ford Eight and Anglia handbook which are a valuable addition to any collector.

Finished in black with brown interior, the E494A Anglia was in production between 1949 and 1953.

A total of 108,878 units were made.

It was the lowest-priced four-wheel car in Britain at the time.

Owen said: “This is a fine example with less than 5,000 miles on the clock and with the provenance it is bound to attract interest.

“It is good to have a car rich in local history and will be a great first-time collectors’ car or to add to a collection.”

The Classics auction at SWVA in Poole is on Thursday 31 October at 10am.

Viewing of all classic models is available from Saturday October 26 to Wednesday October 30.
