Ferry company submits plans to Department for Transport to hike charges by up to 75 per cent

Plans to increase the price of using the Sandbanks chain ferry for motorists as well as pedestrian, cyclists and motorcyclists have been submitted to the Department for Transport.

If agreed, charges could rise by up to 75 per cent.

They would see pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists paying £1.75, instead of £1 which has been in place since 2009.

Cars or light vans less than 3.5 tonnes, previously paying £5.30, may have to £6.26 which is an 18 per cent increase.

Passenger vehicles, including coaches and HGVs more than 3.5 tonnes, would see their charges rise from £10.60 to £12.52.

Comments from interested parties about the proposed price rises can be made to the Department for Transport by September 12.
