Jet2 is introducing new flights and holidays to 16 destinations from Bournemouth Airport starting in summer 2025, creating more than 100 jobs.
Up to 27 weekly flights will be introduced, to places such as Tenerife, Rhodes, Ibiza and Crete.
Two of the destinations, Fuerteventura and Madeira, will be exclusive to Jet2 from Bournemouth Airport.
Steve Heapy, Jet2 CEO, pictured, told Bournemouth One the first flight will be to Tenerife on the 1st of April, 2025.
He added: “Two aircraft will be based here from summer 2025 and it’s going to be great for the region.
“Over 100 jobs created by Jet2 with many more created by the airport and surrounding areas so good news for everybody.”
Why Bournemouth?
“We have looked at our bases in the UK, we have 11, and the one place we don’t have an operation from is the south of England.
“We have Bristol in the South West and Stansted in the South East, so Bournemouth is perfect to fill that gap.
“We’re very excited to welcome in some brand-new customers to our award-winning service.”
Bournemouth airport recently announced it is expecting to handle more than one million passengers this year as Ryanair increased its destinations.
Andrew Bell, CEO of Regional & City Airports, which owns Bournemouth Airport, pictured, said Bournemouth was flying high.
He said: “On top of what Jet2 has announced today at Bournemouth, we already have a very substantial passenger operation, primarily with Ryanair, TUI and easyJet.
“Passenger numbers have rebounded very strongly after the pandemic – we’re now busier than we were before the pandemic.
“We have an air cargo gateway now into the UK, flying in goods from the Far East, serving the needs of the UK consumer industry, and the business park is going from strength to strength. We’re the largest employment location in the whole of Dorset.
“There’s a lot going on here, loads of good news, and we’re delighted.”
The Jet2 news was announced at a press conference at Hurn this morning, marking the 12th UK base for the company.
