Cherries fail to stop Man City momentum in nail-biting contest

Despite putting them under a lot of pressure in the second half, AFC Bournemouth failed to stop Manchester City on their charge to become Premier League champions for the fourth consecutive year.

The only goal of the game came from when the ever-prolific Erling Haaland burst through on goal before forcing a great diving save from Neto as Phil Foden fired home from the rebound in the 24th minute.

The rest of the half was dominated by the treble winners but Andoni Iraola’s side had an answer for everything that was thrown at them.

The second half saw a turn of fortunes for the home side as Dominic Solanke and Marcus Tavernier both came close but Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson kept Bournemouth at bay.

Former Manchester City player Enes Unal also came close heading his shot wide and in the end Pep Guardiola’s side grinded out a narrow 1-0 victory.

Iraola will find a lot of positives from the defeat having lost 6-1 to them three months ago.

The Cherries end the night 14th in the Premier League after wins from Fulham and Crystal Palace who sit 12th and 13th respectively.

Attention turns to Tuesday in the FA Cup against Championship leaders Leicester City before travelling to relegation-fighting Burnley next Sunday.
