Late Ritchie goal denies Bournemouth all three points in four-goal thriller

In their biggest away trip of the season, AFC Bournemouth came away from St. James Park with a hard-fought point after a highly competitive and end-to-end game.

The first 45 minutes were all about the goalkeepers as Neto kept out any Newcastle chances while Martin Dubravka made a handful of fantastic saves to keep the likes of Dominic Solanke and Marcus Tavernier at bay.

The start of the second half was more about Dubravka as the Slovak slipped to gift the ever-prolific Dominic Solanke an open net to give the Cherries a crucial lead.

VAR then injected themselves into the game after a lengthy check deemed an Adam Smith shirt pull of an offside Fabian Schar to give the home side a penalty, a penalty comfortably scored by Anthony Gordon.

Antoine Semenyo then took it upon himself to restore the away lead with a superb solo run and long-distanced finish into the bottom corner.

Just as it looked like Iraola’s men were taking all three points on the long journey home, former Bournemouth player Matt Ritchie pounces on a double deflection to equalise seconds after coming onto the pitch.

The 10 additional minutes were played out in a thrilling way however no team managed to steal the win.

Both teams remained in their respective table positions as the Cherries look to regroup before hosting treble winners Manchester City next Saturday.
