figures show Dorset leads the way in answering NHS 111 calls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People needing medical help and phoning NHS 111 in Dorset have their calls answered quicker than the rest of England.<\/p>\n<p>New figures show that, on average, staff from Dorset HealthCare took less than 18 seconds to answer 111 calls in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s currently the best performance of any 111 service in England.<\/p>\n<p>Almost all calls were picked up in under a minute.<\/p>\n<p>NHS 111 operators can provide expert advice and arrange for people to access the care they need.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to reduce unnecessary trips to hospital emergency departments and the long waits which may follow.<\/p>\n<p>Data provided by NHS Dorset has revealed that since April last year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>more than 92% of 111 calls have been answered in under 60 seconds<\/li>\n<li>the average speed to answer was just over 17 seconds<\/li>\n<li>even at the busiest times, all calls were answered with two minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Anyone needing urgent medical help for something that is not life-threatening and can\u2019t wait to see their GP can get support 24\/7 via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.111.nhs.uk\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.111.nhs.uk\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1706807069192000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3D00i6I-uzDR3xpThXhuBu\" data-saferedirectreason=\"2\">111.nhs.uk<\/a>\u00a0or by calling 111.<\/p>\n<p>When using the 111 service they&#8217;re given advice or booked in for a face-to-face appointment at the appropriate site, such as a minor injuries unit or urgent treatment centre.<\/p>\n<p>Dan McKie, Dorset HealthCare\u2019s integrated urgent care operational lead, said: &#8220;Our 111 staff can support you to access the right care in the right place at the right time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will help reduce pressure on hospital emergency departments and avoid people attending there when they don\u2019t need to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you do call at a busy time, please be patient \u2013 we will get to your call as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone requiring urgent care should call 999 and ask for an
