BCP Council’s Severe Weather Emergency Protocol could be activated this weekend as temperatures drop to below zero in the region.<\/p>\n
Council Leader Vikki Slade is asking residents to remain cautious as the first cold snap of the year looks set to descend.<\/p>\n
The risk of ice on top of all the surface water from the last few days is of particular concern, and teams are on stand by with a fleet of 14 gritting vehicles.<\/p>\n
Cllr Slade added: \u201cAlthough the torrential rainfall on Thursday night has led to beautifully sunny and clear afternoons since, we should all be mindful of the expected change in temperatures over the next few days.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis cold snap will likely mean icy pavements, frozen pathways and increased risk on our roads, so I ask our residents to take care when enjoying their weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you can, please check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours to ensure they\u2019re keeping warm and safe.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur partners at St Mungo\u2019s are closely monitoring the weather forecast and checking on our street homeless population.<\/p>\n
\u201cShould zero degrees be forecast over three consecutive nights, or the impact of the rain, and wind chill cause concern, the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) will be activated and anyone who is sleeping rough will be encouraged to take up the offer of emergency accommodation.\u201d<\/p>\n
