Frequent visitors to Poole Park will have noticed developments are happening at pace at Poole Park Railway.<\/p>\n
Monday 6 December 2021 saw the official commencement of works, which was a significant date for those keen to see the much-loved Poole Park Railway reopen, since its closure in 2018.<\/p>\n
Progress on this BCP Council run project is on schedule, with the track now fully removed. The old engine shed has also been demolished, ready for the next phase of works.<\/p>\n
A positive, and well attended, Information Day was held at The Ark in Poole Park in early December. The engagement event was well attended by councillors, volunteers and members of the public, who were able to find out more about the project and the future specification of the railway, from the contractor and council officers.<\/p>\n
Councillor Mark Anderson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Place, BCP Council, said: \u201cI\u2019m so pleased that work here is on schedule. Weather appears to have been kind since the commencement of works and we hope that this continues. The rejuvenation of Poole is a key priority in our council\u2019s Big Plan, so bringing the railway back to Poole Park reinforces this commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Track Systems, based in Shropshire, were awarded the contract to construct a new railway track and engine shed. They were subsequently successful in a procurement process, which will see them also deliver an electric engine and carriages.<\/p>\n
Councillor Mark Anderson, added: \u201cI understand the construction team on site have got a growing fan club, with regular young visitors keen to see the heavy plant machinery in action. Many can\u2019t wait to see the tracks laid and are excited to get on the railway once it reopens. I make no apology for also sharing this excitement!\u201d<\/p>\n
